Meet the Jazz in the Park Competition Jury 2023

Dear friends and followers,

Please meet our jury for this year’s International Jazz in the Park Competition!

Horea Marc is the stage manager of Jazz in the Park, ever since the beginning of the festival. His experience in both organizing events and music has helped shape our festival as it is. He graduated from the „Gheorghe Dima” national music academy, specializing in percussion. Together with the Jazz in the Park team, he has organized over 400 concerts and has seen performances from some of the biggest names in the international  jazz scene.

 

Laura Orian started her music career with SENSOR, a local band from Cluj who brought a very fresh approach to the market at that time. They performed on many important stages, both nationally and internationally. Now, she focuses her time on working with young musicians and she is very well connected with the international jazz scene.

 

 

Dénes Pécsi-Szabó is the founder of Up Music Budapest, co-founder of Budapest Showcase Hub and board member of International Music Managers Forum (IMMF) Hungary. His mission is to connect great music with the right audience. He represents five Budapest based acts as a manager and he has been sending them internationally to three continents since ten years. Up Music Budapest artists have played over 200 shows in 2022.

 

 

Teodor Pop is the leader and keyboardist of JazzyBIT band from Timisoara, Romania.He fell in love with the piano at the early age of 4 and studied classical music until 14, when he joined the jazz classes of the Francisc Hubic Popular Art School from Oradea. He moved to Timișoara with his university studies, where he continues to play jazz, rock and blues in several projects. He started JazzyBIT in 2011 together with Mihai Moldoveanu and Szabo Csongor Zsolt – they have 3 records and more than 250 concerts in 20 countries on 3 continents, in their 11 years of activity.

 

Together, they will decide which band should win this year’s first prize, but also, which are the best individual musicians from the competition, as well as which are the best compositions.

They will judge based on 5 criteas:

  • Band cohesion
  • Quality of interpretation
  • Connection with the public
  • Originality of the compositions
  • Respecting the festival rules and schedule
