NAUSYQA

Antonio Todisco (guitar/spaceship), Pedro Nobre (drums), Miguel Valente (sax), Jelle Willems (piano), Richard Nacinelli (bass)
Powerful, atmospheric and dramatic music with excellent individual contributions (Peter Slavid, UK) – 2020

In 2019, Conservatorium van Amsterdam brought together these six musicians from Portugal, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands who realised they shared the desire to have a musical space where they could explore and create in their own way. It was a year in which they honed their unique sound, a homogenous mix of film soundtracks (yes, Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind’ is on the list), electronic music, post-rock and the improvisational, interactive element of contemporary jazz. This organic mix of styles gave them a strong live sound, featuring engaging grooves, evocative melodies and visceral, edgy improvisations, a combination that has taken their listeners on a memorable journey with every performance.

Every since it was created, NAUSYQA has won several awards: 2nd place in the 7Virtual Jazz Competition (2021), the Denise Janah Award in Grachtencompetition (2022), 2nd place in Keep an Eye Awards (2022), and 1st place in the Laren Jazz competition (2022). They also performed at Injazz, Jazz in Duketown and Amarte Studio Concerts(2021), Bimhuis, Concertgebouw, as well as the Young Jazz Ahead showcase in Jazz Club Minden (2022). Currently they are working on their debut album, which will be released under the Wicket Wax label.
