Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Lahore, Aftab first emerged from Pakistan’s indie music scene before moving to the United States to study at Berklee College of Music. She later became a central figure in Brooklyn’s experimental and jazz communities, developing a body of work that has earned global acclaim and taken her to major stages and festivals around the world, including Coachella, Glastonbury, and Primavera Sound.
In 2022, she won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance for “Mohabbat,” becoming the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy. With multiple Grammy nominations across consecutive years, Arooj Aftab continues to push the boundaries of contemporary song and composition.
