Under the banner of Afro Jazz Mandingo, this ensemble is based on the charismatic personality of Griot Zouratié Koné, the group leader, a master percussionist from Burkina Faso, singer-songwriter, and musical instrument manufacturer. Zouratié Koné’s compositions are inspired by traditional African rhythms and harmonies, serving as a guide for artistic expression for all accompanying instruments (bass guitar, drums, and percussion).
Koné has adapted dozens of African rhythms and styles to compose the instrumental pieces of the project, with particular attention to groove and harmonization, thus achieving a successful transcontinental fusion. The result is free music, full of communicative and joyful energy, both challenging and respectful of tradition, bringing African rhythms and harmonies closer to the jazz tradition. Ensemble lineup:
