Orchestra Baobab, with over 50 years in the music industry, is coming straight from Dakar, Senegal, to Romania for the first time. Named after the baobab tree, this 9-member band creates music that blends son cubano, wolof, and mande musical traditions. In other words, music that makes you dance.

Meet Thierno Koité, Wilfrid Zinsou, Mountaga Koité, Charlie N’Diaye, Oumar Sow, Rene Sowatche, Yahhya Fall, Abdoulye Cissoko, and Alpha Dieng. All the band members have a rich history in the music industry, dating back to their days with Star Band de Dakar in the 1960s. Star Band was part of the Miami Club of Dakar, which played a huge role in shaping the music scene in Senegal. 

Unfortunately, the band split up in 1987 for about 13 years, only to reunite in 2001 to record their new album ‘Specialist In All Styles’. This album won the Best African Artist award in 2003 at the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards. Now, 50 years later, they are still performing and captivating audiences around the world.
